This caregiver course gives you the knowledge and skills you need to work as a healthcare assistant to qualified healthcare professionals. Gain the professional skills required to work safety and professionally as a carer. Learn how to assess your clients’ needs, and design interventions and care plans for them. Build rapport and professional relationships with your clients by identifying their strengths and weaknesses and helping them to maintain their independence and quality of life. You will learn about the range of physical and emotional challenges related to old age, such as physical disabilities, depression, dementia, elderly abuse, and incontinence. This programme has theoretical and practical sessions to help better understand the fundamentals of aged care. After you graduate, you will be eligible to work as a rest home caregiver or healthcare assistant in primary care centres, hospitals, and care homes. You can also specialise in different healthcare-related fields like disability, dementia care etc. NZ has an aging population so needs more qualified healthcare personnel to enter the workforce. The healthcare community also needs qualified people who can better understand the needs and challenges of their elderly clients, empathise with them, and provide professional person-centred support.
