ACCOMMODATION OPTIONS

There are different types of accommodation options available depending on your lifestyle needs. The different types include homestay, boarding establishments, and flatting, also known as apartments.

These are usually family homes where the family allocates a room for a person to stay. The prices may vary between $200 and $300 per week depending on the host families. Homestays have a variety of facilities, and some families may offer breakfast and dinner on weekdays and all the meals over the weekend.

These are usually hostels where the residents share the majority of the boarding facilities. Food provision is not assured. However, there are cooking facilities. The prices too vary and mostly fall in between $150 to $250 per week.

It is the kind of accommodation which is part of the house or can be a separate house but shared between two or more flatmates. The initial costs tend to be high since they fall between $200 and $500 per week. However, in the long run, they prove to be useful since the costs involve utilities like electricity, water, cooking, etc.

Marsden Technical Institute offers accommodation assistance to all the students, however; they are advised to contact the institution four weeks before arrival.

OTHER IMPORTANT FACTS

The accident compensation insurance (ACC) offers accident insurance for all New Zealand citizens and temporary visitors. However, as an international student you may be liable for the other medical insurance and the related costs.

The majority of international students are not eligible for publicly funded health facilities in New Zealand. Therefore, if you receive treatment while visiting New Zealand, you will be liable for the full costs.

This code of practice applies to all education providers in New Zealand with international students enroled. Marsden Technical Institute is a signatory to and is bound to this system of practice as provided by the Ministry of Education and administered by NZQA.

Call the emergency number in case of crime, fire, illegal activity or when a person you know is a victim of a crime. It is not always essential to reveal your identity when you make the call.

(I.E., BRINGING CASH OR USING EFTPOS/DEBIT CARDS)

It is not advisable to bring large amounts of cash all the time due to security reasons. ATMs are readily available all over Auckland for cash withdrawals, and the majority of businesses in New Zealand accept EFTPOS / Debit cards.

Marsden Technical Institute has a fair and equitable process for dealing with learner complaints. All learners have the right to express a concern or problem they may be experiencing when undergoing training.  

Should you wish to lodge a complaint, you can make a formal written formal complaint and send it to complaints@marsden.ac.nz. Alternatively, you can speak to our Pastoral Care Officer who will be able to document your complaint and assist you with lodgement. Complaints will be treated seriously and dealt with promptly, impartially, sensitively and confidentially.

If our internal complaints process fails to resolve the complaint or you are not satisfied with the outcome of the complaint, you may refer the matter to the  New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) by phone on 0800 697 296 or by:

 If your complaint is related to financial or contractual disputes and is not resolved through Marsden’s complaints process, you can also seek the support of iStudent (https://www.istudent.org.nz/), an independent dispute resolutions scheme established by the New Zealand Government and an appointed operator of the International Student Contract Dispute Resolution Scheme (DRS), which was set up to resolve financial and contractual disputes.
