Course Details
This course is an introductory horticulture course, designed to give you a taster of the skills needed to work in the horticulture industry in New Zealand.
Do you want to learn how to grow plants from seeds and cuttings? Do you want to be able to identify weeds in your home garden, and how to manage pests? Have you always wondered if a job in the horticulture industry is for you?
Come along and learn for free, with no assessments, to get a taster of whether you want to pursue this as a career option. There is no obligation to enrol into a horticulture certificate upon completion of this taster course, but we do offer part time and fulltime options to continue your studies if you decide to continue this journey.
This is an Adult in Community Education (ACE) programme funded by the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC). It is not an enrolment into an NZQA accredited programme leading to a New Zealand qualification.
The purpose of ACE Funding is to provide adults with:
· Foundation skills,
· Pathways into other learning opportunities that meet community learning needs
· This course includes theory and practical learning and has no assessments
· Activities will include hands-on horticulture practical work
· Topics covered include propagation, pests and diseases, planting, and plant identification
The course may also include learning about Bonsai and visits to horticulture workplaces. Learners may need to make their own travel arrangements to horticulture workplaces and field trips.
