Description
The purpose of this qualification is to provide a pre-employment qualification for people who are entering the hospitality industry in a range of basic positions. To provide a credential for those interested in entering the hospitality industry, that will support their future employment opportunities to work across the different hospitality career pathways
Course Content
This programme is based on unit standards covering the following:
• Food safety and hygiene
• Barista and Beverages (cocktails and mocktails)
• Food service
• Teamwork
• Problem-solving
• Cooking

Entry Requirements
• Students must be 18 years of age or over.
• According to the Ministry of Health, COVID-19 Vaccination Certificates are mandated,
and evidence of vaccination status must be provided during enrolment.
• All applicants will be interviewed to consider the application for enrolment.
Acceptance will be determined at the discretion of the interviewer.
• There may be further restrictions when this course is offered under a Tertiary Education
Commission Contract.
English language Entry requirements
In line with NZQA requirements for international students, where English is not the applicant’s first
language, they will be required to provide evidence of their English language skills
Evidence that the student has:
• Must have an IELTS level of 5.5 (General or Academic) with no sub-score less than 5, or
• Completion of the relevant New Zealand Certificate in the English Language, or
• Completion of accepted international equivalents.
Pathways
Education:
This qualification can lead on to the New Zealand Certificate in Food and Beverage Service (Level 3) with strands in Barista, Bar Services, Buffet Services, Cafe Services, Functions Services, Quick Service Restaurant Services, and Restaurant Services [Ref: 2104].
Employment:
Graduates can be employed or self-employed in roles such as kitchen hand, waiter, barista, catering assistant, receptionist, barback, or glassy.

What are the benefits
This programme is designed for youth & adults enabling them to achieve NZ Certificate Level 2 in a hospitality industry context.
The programme provides a lot of practical, hands-on learning, covering food safety, beverage making, customer service and cookery skills.
This is a full-time programme which generally runs Monday to Friday helping to prepare you for entering the workforce or further studies once you graduate.
Eligible youth learners will have access to additional support like travel allowances, safety gear and uniforms.
