Description
This programme is for those learners intending to gain an introduction to basic skills relevant to the building, construction, and allied trades sector. It provides foundation knowledge and skills relevant to a wide range of trade occupations within the building and construction industry. Students will learn about health and safety procedures, develop their knowledge of measurements and calculations, learn basic skills in relation to the use and maintenance of hand tools, and develop the ability to effectively use construction materials plans in a workshop through the completion of 2 projects.
Course Content
The programme has two modules:
Working in a BCATS environment module introduces learners to health and safety procedures, develops their knowledge of measurements and calculations in the context of a BCATS project, and introduces them to knowledge and basic skills in relation to the use of hand tools.
BCATS project module, learners will embed the safe working procedures learned in module 1, develop the ability to effectively use construction materials and hand tools, and learn to follow plans and instructions to complete the 2 BCATS projects. The module is fully delivered in a BCATS workshop, under direct supervision.

- NZ Citizen or Permanent Resident.
- 16 years of age or over.
- Not hold NCEA level 2 or similar qualifications.
- Enrolment is also subject to an interview process.
Pathways
Education:
The qualification could lead to the New Zealand Certificate in Building, Construction and Allied Trade Skills (Level 2).
Employment:
Graduates may wish to enter into trade related employment or a modern apprenticeship.

Papakura Campus
Class Timings: 8.30am-3pm Monday to Friday. Part of class hours (practical). Duration: 24 Weeks. (Full-Time)
Henderson Campus
Class Timings: 8.30am-3pm Monday to Friday. Part of class hours (practical). Duration: 24 Weeks. (Full-Time)

This level 1 programme is designed to provide a taster of the construction and building industry. Develop entry level skills and knowledge by building timber projects such as garden furniture.
This programme starts you on your journey towards being a builder or carpenter, and there are many job opportunities in the booming construction industry.
This is a full-time programme that runs Monday to Friday, helping to prepare you for entering the workforce or further studies once you graduate. Increase your skills, employability, and paycheck as you progress sequentially from Level 1 to 3.
Eligible youth learners will have access to additional support like travel allowances, safety gear and uniforms.
